Mom Can I Keep This Cardboard Box, Please

Corrugated cardboard. We all know what it is, if you don’t, its what most box packaging is made of. Simple, cheap, easy to make, and above all sturdy, it revolutionized the shipping and packaging industries as far back as the 1800’s. Today it will revolutionize sound through its more innate characteristics, sound deadening/acoustic absorption.

Carved into a 2.5m box of 720 half square sheets of 7mm thick corrugated cardboard, stacked in 360 layers. Add 6 speaker surround, the requisite wiring, a keen ear for acoustics, and an eye to design, the result is an elegant study in form  and  acoustics with the perfect balance of ambivalence.

Now try explaining to your mom you’re a grown man sitting in a cardboard box listening to music.
