Can You Do It, In Front Of Everybody?

Installation art ranks high up for me, functional installation art, higher, provocative functional installation art, it just doesn’t get much better. Monica Bonvicini came  up with the “Don’t Miss a Sec” idea while on a flight, probably between her bases of Berlin, and L.A. Inspired by the “see and be seen” mentality of the art world, and the simple fact that at an art show you don’t want to miss anything by going to the bathroom. It was temporarily installed on a busy street outside the Basel Art Festival in 2004 and is made of 2-way glass. In retrospect she found another message, “about the desire and failure to ‘see it all’ which is a strong trait in modernism”. Brilliant.
