If The Water Is Too High You’ll Drown

Yesterday the weather was straight death outside, and it’s not even Halloween yet. As I mentioned plimsoll weather is just about gone, but I still find myself holding on dearly to the summer. I came across these on UK site ASOS and fell in love. What’s a plimsoll? It’s a sneaker with canvas uppers, and a rubber mid-sole and sole. Originally known as sand-shoes (I wear them to the beach all the time and get called a pussy land-lover for not wearing flip-flops) they got the name plimsoll because, just like the plimsoll line on a ship, if water got above this line you’re fucked royally screwed. I wear plimsolls all summer because, they’re light, machine-washeable, you’re feet don’t get too sweaty, and best of all they’re cheap, so I can buy a fleet of them.

“The shoe has become an icon of many generations—and music genres, including Grunge, hip-hop, emo and gangsta rap. In the early months of 2008, the Plimsoll shoe within the UK became a major fashion statement, with many celebrities such as Pete Doherty and other Indie/Emo related stars influencing their come back. They are generally worn with tight fitting jeans (also known as Drainpipe jeans) or jeans with turned up bottoms.” – Wikipedia Quote *you got to be kidding me*
