Marc Jacobs and the Man-Skirt

Now, let me preface this post with my utmost respect for Marc Jacobs and his vaunted design house. I have nothing against men wearing clothes that shake things up. Hell, I come from a culture where this would be normal. I’m just wondering what do people, without looking up Marc Jacobs’ quotes on this new direction, really think about this look.

Is it “directional” like so many Sartorialist commentators demand? Or is it just weird-for-weird’s sake? Do people see it as a man-skirt or a kilt? Would that make a difference? What is Marc really trying to put out there with this, I hate to say this, “fashion statement?”
