Wall Painting in Senegal

Senegal is a West African country that has a truly beautiful culture and it is one that I particularly love and enjoy. Dakar is the capitol and the major city, but what many people seemingly do not know about this French-speaking nation is their very vivid and rich Islamic culture.

They look to their Islamic leaders of the past as people to look for guidance, when it comes to their post-colonial identities, otherwise, the Prophet Muhammad is their guide. The mural above is of Ahmadou Bamba, who fought against French colonial rule through a pacifist model.

Here are various photos from Senegal about this art form. There are a lot more at TJ Haslam.
