Casual Friday: The Leather Jacket

terry

Now I know what you’re thinking, how can you talk about a leather jacket during the summer? Obviously, I’m not suggesting you wear this jacket during the day. In fact, you probably won’t wear a leather jacket most nights.

However, during those random cool summer nights, where a jacket is useful, skip the blazer for a day (I know, I can’t believe I said that either) and try something a little different: The Leather Motorcycle Jacket.

The Berlin Effect

The temperature might be warming up–albeit slowly–but that does not mean you can’t appreciate looks for a colder climate. The scarf is clearly my favorite element of this gentleman from Berlin.

Black..Brown..and Navy?

_mg_3880-3

This guy is breaking rules that I hold dear to my heart, he’s combining navy and black and black and brown. While I see navy and brown as a rather logical combination, I am not sure how I feel about black being added to the mix.

However, the look achieved above, from Beijing, rocks my faith in the rules of separation between black and navy and black and brown.

BLACK by Alexander McQueen

A long time before the “Vampires,” in 2004 Alexander McQueen created this mesmerizing event. It is one of these videos that makes me pause some seconds after the end, thinking absolutely nothing (is this mentally healthy?). It’s 5 years and this video still gives me the chills.

The Skull Cardigan

Ralph Lauren Rugby is truly a brand on the rise. Now that they have stopped offering simply “younger” versions of what is available at Ralph Lauren, it seems Rugby has truly embraced what will set it apart from other brands: its own style ethos.

The Skull Cardigan is comfortable and soft, hallmarks of Ralph Lauren’s products. The cardigan also comes in red, but, to be honest, the black is much better.

Check it out here.

Dior Homme

Do you like black? Like lots and lots of black? If so, Dior Homme wants to satisfy that need. I’ll be honest, I’m not a big fan of the Dior acesthetic, but, I can appreciate things that do not necessarily go with my style choices.

That being said, I have to say that this latest line is pretty odd. If you loved the movie “Underworld” then you will really dig these clothes. Every model was pretty pale, but the emphasis on black is rather weird. What is really weird is how black dress shirts are suddenly stylish when they used to be the stock ridicule.

Anyways, here are some of the other selections from the Dior show I liked:

BLACK is the New Black

The creative team over at Asuza have certainly caught my attention with their 2008 Winter Collection. The strikingly casual sillohuettes contrast the moody, mainly black, color pallette. The influence of the 80’s and 90’s was evident through the utilization of acid wash jeans and geometric graphics. Here it is folks, we can now quit trying to reinvent our favorite non-color… BLACK IS BACK.
