Veteran Style, Milan

milan6

One of my favorite blogs for style, is Advanced Style, which showcases the best street style from around the world, focusing on those that made the 50’s classic, the 60’s revolutionary, the 70’s experimental, and the 80’s excessive.

Soccer Video of the Day

So I honestly go through thousands of soccer videos a day. I think I’m just going to start showing the best of them to you all, my best friend pretends to be interested while my girlfriend can only take one a week.

This video is of Italian television, where they don’t show the game, they just show the announcers and various commentators on the game. So they’re telling you all about the game, but not showing it, because they don’t have the rights to. The guy above (on the right), Cristiano Ruiu, is a Milan fan, while the guy next to him is an Inter fan. Milan and Inter hate each other, so this was a huge game.

All The Right Details, Milan

met 1

Fit is usually everything in an outfit. If those jeans were a little too long, or that rain coat a little bigger, he would have looked sloppy, unkempt.

This young gentleman from Milan shows the edgier side of Milanese men’s fashion, which is often overlooked for the more tailored and traditional sorts of fashion.

Those Cutaway Collars

albaz5_29465516

You know those dress shirt with the crazy cut-away collars? Ralph Lauren sells them only in his purple label line for $325ish; Lino from Al Bazar (pictured above) sells them for around €70 ($92).

How about buying one from Brooks Brothers for $67?

Another View of Milan

pwp1

There is this idea that Milan is a city of just straight-up glamor. High-fashion in the most pure and traditional form. However, Plastic Choko seeks to offer a very different view of the various fashion scenes of Milan.

The party photography is pretty cool, because it shows the young side of Milan. Of course, few top-level bloggers stay in completely in one city, Plastic Choko goes to other cities in Italy such as Florence:

Costume National

Costume National is actually an Italian brand that was founded in 1986. They did not get into the menswear game until later, around 1993. They have a pretty unique perspective on the direction of men’s fashion and Fall’s lineup was no different.

Look for chunky shoes, washed and wrinkled tailored clothing (oxymoron?), all brought together by classic lines made funky. Costume National does the “rakish” look very well, and their latest collection was no exception.

I think for those who really dig the vintage look, Costume National is a place to look for ideas, because they really show how to wear things that would usually be called “poorly fitted.” The looks are very French, but, the design house is Italian, and you can see that in the little details. It’s those details that really separate Costume National from other brands in this fashion genre.

The Italian Way: Boggi

If you go to Milan and do not have the money for the fantastic Italian suits you see there, take a look at Boggi. Boggi is in Milan (of course) and they have a fantastic staff. Not only do they offer great tailoring, style advice, and service but they also do it without breaking the bank.

Their online store really does no justice to the selection and quality of their product, but check it out here.

If you do go to Milan, ask for Davide, he’s the one who knows what the young gentleman wants.
